Yes, You CAN Keep Score

First off, let me be clear, there is no point system for salvation. No amount of works (or lack thereof) will get you in or out of Heaven.

Ephesians 2:8-10 (Berean Study Bible)

8For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9not by works, so that no one can boast. 10For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance as our way of life.

That said, there is a score, and you get to keep it. Just as with many popular video games, this walk of faith comes with a “bonus level”, and all of us are playing it. The important question is, will you keep your score, or lose it?

Our conduct in this life will determine that outcome.

Matthew 16:27

27 For the Son of Man is about to come in the glory His Father, with His angels, and then He will give to each according to his deeds.

The beauty in this is that we know that we can’t be rewarded with punishment for our misdeeds, but let me caution you to remember, we can lose out on our gains. It stands in good stead then, to work for a big reward, not only because it would be nice to have a good reward, but because it’s pleasing to our Heavenly Father.

Additionally, let us remember to view our trials from the right perspective. Every hard time you endure, every temptation you overcome, every time you are falsely accused and you don’t retaliate – all of these are working toward your ultimate reward (See 1st Peter for more on that).

Let me leave you with these words from the writer of Hebrews:

Hebrews 10:35 (NIV)
35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.
