The X factor

FOR LOVE OF COUNTRY

Our nation has just experienced the most dramatic election ever in its history. Never before has this nation experienced a clean and total sweep by any political party. In times past we had very close elections, but never a time when we did not have a sitting opposition.

These are indeed changing times politically, but there are sure indications of shifts being made in the atmosphere, the climate and spiritual makeup of the nation, and indeed our region.

The main cry of the people was for leadership, having had a time to settle in and lead the people after being there for a while. it seemed as though the questions being asked were not being answered by those in power, in many most questions, queries, need for explanations, in most  cases were met with stony silence. This silence became  the order of the day. Yet despite the seeming challenges brought on by worldwide economic pressures, and rising debt challenges, the silence continued to prevail even though the voice of the people kept crying out. Instead of answering questions, it became a focus on personalities.

I believe this inattention more than anything else gave rise to the wave of “we want change” which engulfed the nation.

The elections were finally called after a delay,  and now the will of the people has been exercised.  Having elected a new Government, what now is to be the expectation? Certainly, it cannot be business as usual, as the country is reeling on many fronts, not only must questions be answered, but swift attention must be given to how are we going to arrive at the quickest and best solutions, and how they will they be implemented.

Without a sitting opposition in the House of Assembly it means that every citizen must be vigilant now to see that the expectations of the people are attended to without the displays of arrogance, inept, pertly attitudes which permeated the atmosphere in recent times. Governance is about seeing that God’s will for the people is exercised.

More than ever we need wisdom, not just a knowledge base wisdom, but a wisdom that comes directly from the very source of wisdom Himself. More than ever those who bare rule in this land must look to the higher source, or we will quickly find ourselves back at the polls trying to find another group whom we hope will provide solutions. Pride and arrogance can no longer be the order of the day.

The church in Barbados must not be swayed by political motivations, selfish ambitions, and the desire for popularity, we must recognize the tremendous responsibility placed on us in this nation in which we have to work, do business, raise families, and promote the cause of Christ Jesus. Let us remain focused as believers, let us do our part and see our nation prosper in these trying times in which our world finds itself.

Let us play our part when call on to do so, other than that, we have some daily responsibilities which must attend to according to the Word of God.

WE MUST:

STAND IN THE GAP-  Ezekiel 22:30, “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one.”

Let God find someone here in this land of sea and sun he can trust. Let it be you.

PRAY AND INTERCEDE-

I Timothy 2:1-2 – I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people—  for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

I Peter 2:17  – Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

Romans 13:1 – Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.

Jeremiah 29:7 – Also, seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.

II Chronicles 7:14 – if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

HOLD THE LEADERS UP –

Psalms 2:10-11 –  Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.  Serve the LORD with fear and celebrate his rule with trembling.

Proverbs 11:14 – For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.

Proverbs 21:1 – The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; he turns it wherever he will.

Job 12:23-25 – He makes nations great, and destroys them; he enlarges nations, and disperses them.

For Love of Country, lets do our part.
